LNB - low noise block downconverter is placed at the focal point of the parabolic antenna. It amplifies the weak satellite signal approximately 1000 times and then converts it to a lower frequency ( called Intermediate Frequency - 950 MHz to 2150 MHz) so that not much signal will be lost in the coaxial cable between the dish and the receiver.
